Fun in the Sun

Bridgewater Beach & Skoottamatta River
Take a short walk to our private (not available for public use) natural sand beach, and enjoy a refreshing swim in the river, listening to the flow of the rapids and relaxing on the river sand bars. The water is very clear, great for snorkeling, so keep an eye out for shiny things, could be a piece of gold. Or attempt a venture out in our boats, or feel free to bring and use your own (no motor boats).
Boat Rentals
We offer a range of kayaks, canoes, and peddle boats at our Beachside Shed subject to availability for you to use during your stay. Boats are booked on a first come first serve basis and do require signing of a waiver. Boat Rental Rules & Regulations are posted at the beachside shed, please read before you venture out in them. If you are interested, there is a Skootamatta River canoe trail, map is available on the Municipality of Tweed’s website. You are more than welcome to BYOB (bring your own boat) or your favourite river floaty. No Motorized Boats. Keep in mind that there are areas of rapids.
Go Fish
Skoottamatta River is the perfect place to cast your reel, so long as you have your Outdoor Card/fishing/anglers license and you bring your own equipment. The most common fish found here are Northern Pike, Small Mouthed Bass, Golden Shiner, and Carp. Please do not feed the fish. If you’ve caught yourself some dinner, please use the fish cleaning station located outside of the Beach Club, not inside any of the rental units or buildings.
Wildlife
Have your camera ready, we have quite a few visitors to capture a quick pic of! Please keep your distance from our wildlife friends. Please do not leave any garbage outdoors or feed any of the wildlife.
Riverside Trail, Goldmine & Cave
We have a short adventurous trail from the beach alongside the river & rapids to see the old gold mine and the natural rock cave.
Lilac walk
Take a walk following the trail through our lilac bushes to our “lookout point”, just overlooking the hwy there is a marsh to watch all kinds of birds and other wildlife animals.

Outdoor Fun Games & Activities
There is an abundance of outdoor fun to be had and memories to make at Bridgewater Retreat. Enjoy a friendly or competitive game of volleyball, badminton, cornhole, or horseshoes.  Please no water balloons.
Price Conservation Area
“A perfect setting for family picnics on a hot summer day. Situated along a beautiful stretch of the Skootamatta River, the area is rich in flora and fauna. There is a white pine plantation, but the area is predominantly mixed forest with wet and marshy land in the low lying areas. A large, scenic concrete dam restricts the flow of the river which then enters a gorge. Along the edge of the gorge are beautiful stands of mixed forest. Making a trip to this area is worthwhile for the scenery alone”.

 Rainy Day Back Up’s ☂
Our Beach Club and every Cottage is fully equipped with board games, cards, and books for an indoor day of fun without the sun.

Wifi: Don't worry, we have it! Please enjoy our complimentary Wifi, feel free to use it to post your beautiful photos and tag us @bridgewaterretreat !

TV: Not that we think you need to use it much, we definitely understand that you may not want to miss the big game, or the new episode or binge-watch the latest series. Please enjoy the Satellite, Smart TV in the cottages and the Beach Club.
